WOQOD (Qatar Fuel) has acquired two vessels to provide bunkering to ships and other vessels within the Qatari territory.

WOQOD Vice-Chairman and Managing Director Muhammed Turki Al Subai said the company would utilize the two vessels- Sidra Doha and Sidra Al Khaleej- to provide petroleum products such as diesel and heavy fuel oil for ships, dredgers, supply vessels to offshore platforms and government projects within Qatar’s territory.

He said the projects include the expansion of the Ras Laffan Port, the Dolphin Project and the New Doha International Airport.

The total cost of the two ships amounted to QR 33mn. Both are equipped with German-made engines and registered with Lloyds after successfully passing technical inspection tests.

The length of each ship is around 85 meters, while its width and depth are 14m and 6.5m, respectively. The total loading capacity for each ship exceeds 3,800 tonnes, Al Subai said.

With the addition of the two vessels, WOQOD has a fleet strength of three. Sidra Qatar, the first ship purchased by WOQOD a few years ago is being utilized for shipping and storing bitumen, a material used to pave roads.

The acquisition of the two vessels, he said, was part of WOQOD’s efforts at contributing to the economic development process which Qatar currently witnessed under the wise leadership and vision of H.H. the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

“We are now seizing new avenues and opportunities to diversify revenues and boost profits and achieve what shareholders are aspiring for WOQOD’s strategic objective is to provide high quality and sophisticated services to its customers and respond to domestic market demand, within Qatar and its territorial waters,” Al Subai said.
